Advanced Video Camera and Editing

Editing Techniques

Basic editing skills amount to the equivalent of stick drawings. Using advanced techniques opens the floodgates to the imagination, allowing you to create dynamic visual effects that can enhance your storytelling. Additionally, advanced skills will help you work more effectively, accelerating your workflow through the use of shortcut techniques.

The film and video universe contains a separate reality with structural laws all its own. Editors can join together a sequence of shots to expand or compress time, and alternate points of view to create tempo and suspense. As an editor you have it within your power to alter the realities of time and space!

This section details some various techniques that you can use to enhance your projects. Much of the information is derived from the Apple Pro Training Series book, Final Cut Pro 7, Beyond the Basics by Michael Wohl.
